Fire District 1 of Johnson County responds to two Spring Hill house fires

On June 14th, 2022 at 4:23 a.m., Fire District #1 of Johnson County, KS was dispatched to the 19700 block of Barstow St. in Spring Hil, KS for a house fire. Call notes stated that there was fire visible on the outside of the home with everyone evacuated excluding the owner’s dogs. While en route, units could see fire showing from W. 199th St. and Ridegivew Rd.

The first arriving unit found fire and smoke showing from the backside of the home. Units operating inside the home evacuated the structure due to the roof partially collapsing and the wind making firefighting efforts difficult.

All occupants were able to evacuate but unfortunately one dog didn’t survive.

The American Red Cross Kansas is assisting two adults, two children, and two dogs as they have been displaced due to the extensive amount of damage done to the home. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The City of Olathe Fire Department, City of Overland Park, Kansas Government Fire Department, Johnson County MED-ACT, and Spring Hill Kansas Police Department also assisted at the scene.

Less then 24 hours prior on June 13, 2022 at 7:48 p.m., Fire District #1 Of Johnson County, KS was dispatched to the 20500 block of S. Ridgeview Rd. in Spring Hill, KS for a house fire.

The first arriving unit found fire and smoke showing from the backside of the home.

There was only one resident home at the time of the fire and was the original calling party. A total of three adults have been displaced due to the fire. The American Red Cross Kansas is assisting the displaced family. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Johnson County MED-ACT’s Rehab Unit was dispatched to the Incident to assist with keeping personnel from becoming fatigued due to the heat.

One firefighter was transported to a nearby hospital for non-life threatening injuries. There are no other injuries related to this Incident.
