GEHS travels to Lawrence

The Trailblazers Men’s soccer team competed last night. Both the JV & Varsity teams went head to head with the Lawrence High School Lions away at the Lawrence High School Soccer Stadium. The Junior Varsity were downed by the Lions suffering another loss to bring their record to 33. The Junior Varsity team lost the contest 02. It was a disappointing result. The young men worked the entire match. The first half ended 0-2 for Lawrence after a devastating five minutes of poor play that the Lions capitalized upon and scored two goals very quickly. The Trailblazers Junior Varsity played the second half with a stalwart defensive effort and had opportunities to bring themselves back into the match to no avail. The team will rebound from this loss once again. The team will be looking to reassert their style of play in the very next contest and find ways to be successful.

Next up was the Varsity team. The team was reeling from their most recent defeat. Despite that disappointing feeling the Blazers were prepared. The Trailblazers attacked with a speed of play and precision that was exciting to watch. The Trailblazers hit the crossbar and had numerous goal scoring chances in the first 15 minutes of the match, ultimately not converting any goals. The Lions however bury two shots for goals. The Trail blazers fought back and came within one goal with a conversion just before half time by Gilan Brown to go into halftime down 2-1. The second half was much like the first and the Trailblazer men failed to convert more chances. With eight minutes remaining in the match Coach Derek Wilson changed formations and sent more players forward in an attempt to equalize. Unfortunately it left the Blazers vulnerable in the back and the Lions put away one more goal to conclude the match 3-1 for the Lawrence Lions. The conclusion of that match brings their record to 2-4 this season.

The GEHS Men’s Trailblazer soccer team will once again be tearing up the field with quality play and attempting to dump their opponents on Thursday, September 15th versus the Shawnee Mission – East Lancers with Junior Varsity playing first at 5:00pm and Varsity competing immediately after, playing at the Gardner-Edgerton Trailblazer soccer field in Gardner, KS.
