Do you really know Just what I need?

The fall season has taken a toll. The dreary skies and cold weather make me want to hibernate. You come out of that foggy displaced feeling and realize you once again are talking to your tv or answering the questions on the commercials.

I opened my e mails the other day to see on from Macy’s. You remember Macy’s , big stores, beautiful things, way out of my price league when I was a younger single person.

Anyway Macy’s had just what I needed for that New Years Eve extravaganza I would be attending.

First of all in my 68 years there was only one time I had plans requiring anything other than pj’s a robe and some cocoa for New Years Eve. I was maybe 19 years old and a friend of mine had suggested we do the New Years Eve thing at a local establishment. I don’t recall even which place it was. I am sure it was in Overland Park. All the best places were at least 15 miles away from home in those days.

We scouted out appropriate New Years Eve attire. We were going to look mid 70’s cool and groovy. Clothes purchased, very large clunky shoes for dancing acquired. All was set to go.

The last Day of December arrived cold and much to my dismay filled with an ice storm. Plans cancelled and never rescheduled.

That was years and year ago. The macy’s advertisement made me think of that lost New Years Eve. There was a dress pictured that I could have worn way back when. It was about as long as, well, it was very short. It was sparkly and looked fun. But that was then and this is now.

Macy’s hasn’t tuned into the fact that I now longer want to be out on amateur as it was lovingly called in our family. I want to warm and toasty, watching the ball drop in Sydney Australia, New York and then Chicago. I want warm cocoa and to fall asleep peacefully in my bed before Los Angeles see’s the New Year.

I am afraid Macy’s doesn’t really have what I need at all. Like Dorothy says to Glinda in The Wizard of Oz: “If I ever go looking for my heart’s desire again, I won’t look any further than my own back yard. Because if it isn’t there, I never really lost it to begin with.”

My thought exactly.
