Fixed, low income housing approved for Gardner

$1 million investment of HOME funds was approved by the Johnson County Board of Commissioners Thursday, November 17 for the new Prairiebrooke Townhomes development. 20 one- and two-story dwelling structures containing 76 units, 60 of the units designated for low income 2-bedroom and 3-bedroom units through a Low-Income Housing Tax Credit will be built at 174th Street and Kill Creek Road.

City of Gardner pays tribute to local veterans

Veterans were celebrated and recognized Monday, November 7 at Gardner City Hall as part of the city’s appreciation program and reception. The program included the presentation of colors by the Johnson County Sheriff ’s Office, many songs by the Prairie Star Quartet including The National Anthem, a video, poems, speakers and an introduction of the city’s new veteran’s banner program.

USD 231 approves policy banning trans students from preferred bathrooms, sports teams

After months of student protests and debate from board member Jeff Miller’s proposed policy in July, the Gardner Edgerton School Board voted 5 to 2 to adopt the policy that would prohibit transgender children from using their preferred restrooms or participating on sports teams with the gender identity they are comfortable with.
