Transparency and Open Meetings act concerns have been raised recently over a meeting called by 6th District Johnson County Commissioner Shirley Allenbrand. Frank Moles, unincorporated county resident, brought this to attention during public comments at the Thursday, June 23 commission meeting.
Johnson County and RideKC announced Wednesday, June 29 its micro transit routes are increasing their service area along with adding Sunday service that would begin Tuesday, July 5. Fares will be adjusted based on distance traveled to either three or five dollars.

The Kansas Supreme Court ruled Friday in an unanimous decision overturning lower court decisions and rejected the Kansas Board of Tax Appeals 2021 findings that Johnson County had overtaxed Walmart’s 11 properties and Sam’s Club’s two properties by tens of millions of dollars.

The Kansas Supreme Court ruled on Friday, July 1 that a 2006 agreement between the City of Olathe and the City of Spring Hill regarding land annexation is not legally binding. The City of Spring Hill and the City of Olathe entered into an agreement March 2006 to restrict their future growth by establishing boundaries for annexing land adjacent to the two cities.
The sale or distribution of fireworks is permitted between June 28 and July 4 within Gardner city limits. They can only be discharged from July 2 through July 4, 10 a.m.
Johnson County Commissioners approved raising the speed limit on 13 road segments in unincorporated parts of the county, Thursday June 23. Jeff Foss, Johnson County Public works, said the 13 segments met the criteria of raising the speed limits to 40 or 45mph and that 85 percent of people who drive these areas drive faster than the posted 35mph speed limit.
Construction has begun on the east side of the New Century Commerce Center after last month’s groundbreaking. The consent agenda item was pulled for discussion at the Thursday, June 23 meeting for further discussion.
