The Commemorative Air Force-Heart of America hosted the last Open Hanger Day of 2022 at Hangar 3, 6 Aero Plaza, New Century, KS. Attendees could enjoy a lunch, tour the collection of military aviation memorabilia, visit with pet rescue groups, build a Styrofoam glider, purchase a personalized dog tag, ride in a vintage jeep and purchase an airplane ride in an open cockpit flight. Gardner Edgerton Trailblazers and Spring Hill Broncos were represented in the 2022 Johnson County Old Settler’s Parade on Saturday morning, September 10 in downtown Olathe, Kansas. The parade and celebration were established in 1898.
Micky Pegg, owner of All Saints Cigars, hosted the first event for Ash and Anvil’s Grand Opening Thursday, September 8. Pegg said he met Derrick Stockton at a trade show and through social media. “I love the Stockton family,”he said. “They travel in packs. Lhermansen@cherryroad.com The Absolute True Diary of a Part Time Indian by Sherman Alexis has been called into question by parents in the USD 231 school district for content they don’t believe is suitable for their children to be reading in their English classes. Carrie Schmidt, a parent of two teenage children in the school district, said the book came to her attention after asking for the class curriculum.
Lhermansen@cherryroad.com Attendees to the Chamber coffee event, Wednesday, September 7 met members of the school district at the Gardner Edgerton High School’s culinary center known as ‘Bistro 403.’ Superintendent Dr. Brian Huff was unable to attend due to illness.
Lhermansen@cherryroad.com Marvin Lefmann, Gardner resident and Special Olympic Athlete, was recognized at the Tuesday, September 6 City Council meeting for his achievements in softball. Lefmann travelled with the Topeka Stars Special Olympics softball team this June to compete in the 2022 Special Olympic USA games in Orlando, Florida.
Lhermansen@cherryroad.com Arvest Bank recently announced the introduction of Braille debit cards for their customers as part of their “inclusion” program. The cards will function the same as a traditional debit card, but will have Braille on the front for the customer’s name and card number along with the expiration date and three digits security code on the back in Braille.
