The new DJI Matrice 300 RTK drone recently purchased for the Gardner Police Department made its first appearance at the Community Police Advisory Committee meeting, Monday, September 26. Corporal Cody Waggoner and Officer Justin Weathers showed the differences between the new drone and their older drone the Maverick 2 Prise.
DEAR DR. ROACH: My eye doctor told me I’m in danger of an “acute attack” of narrow angle glaucoma and that I need iridotomy in both eyes right away. He also said this may be related to my headaches. I wanted to get a sense of whether to go ahead with it pretty quickly or to possibly get a second opinion, since this ophthalmologist is new to me. I’m kind of nervous about it, since it seems that only about 65% of folks are “cured,” with others sometimes needing a follow-up surgery later on. -- G.M.
The city decided this last week to cancel its annual Grand Slam Beer, Wine, and Spirits Fest at Celebration Park scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 8. Several of their available vendors could not commit to the event due to staffing issues, they said.
This Friday, October 7 and Saturday, October 8 the City of Edgerton will be hosting a BBQ competition in Downtown Edgerton. Meat Inferno is sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society and will have a kids barbeque competition on Friday and a backyard bbq and other bbq category competitions on Saturday.
A former City of Gardner employee crashed a boat at Gardner Lake over Labor Day weekend that injured two people. One of the two people injured was the boat driver’s mother Barbara Cook, who had her arm severed.
Paige Schesser was crowned Homecoming Queen and Pierson Carlisle was crowned Homecoming King at the Gardner Edgerton Homecoming game on Friday, Sept 23. Gardner Edgerton Varsity football lost to Mill Valley 35-14. Updates on the progress of Main Street were given at the Gardner City Council Meeting, Monday September 19. Jim Pruetting, city administrator, said he thought the west side would be finished before Winter, but the construction had been delayed until February 1.
80 years ago at the start of WWII, a military base was built on farmland east of Gardner to help aid in the war efforts. The “Prairie Navy” opened October 1, 1942 and trained pilots for WWII and The Korean War efforts.
Marine Colonel Thomas Holden flew the last Ch-46 helicopter in ìOperation Frequent Windî as part of the final evacuation of Saigon in 1975 at the end of the Vietnam War. He presented at the Commemorative Air Force-Heart of America Wing September meeting, Saturday, September 17.
